Land Rover`s Halewood factory will serve as a production source for the 2015 Discovery Sport, the model that will have to replace the current Freelander.
To prepare the assembly line for the new model, Land Rover will invest 200 million GBP, the equivalent of 250 million euros. The money will be spent to modernize the factory and to hire another 250 people.
The car will enter production line next year and is already considered by the British manufacturer as the most versatile and off-road capable compact SUV in its segment. Here will have to settle up with current Jeep Renegade, as the American crossover claims the same thing.
“The Land Rover Discovery Sport is the next in a line of exciting new products to come from Jaguar Land Rover. I am delighted that Halewood – and Liverpool – has been selected for this new investment. It is totally deserved, and strengthens the ‘special relationship’ that bonds Jaguar Land Rover to this great city”, said Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, inside the press release.
