2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE is another surprise for 2014 Paris Motor Show. It is the hybrid version of the new generation Passat, the third model in current range to use the plug-in configuration after the XL1 and the Golf GTE.
Available in four door or estate configuration, the new Passat GTE is expected to reach showrooms in summer of 2015.
Aesthetically there is nothing much to comment. The car features different front bumper, blue logo`s, new LED lihts and specially designed alloy wheels. Same blue color is found inside thanks to the ambient lighting.
Power comes from a 1.4 liter TSI petrol unit, combined with an electric motor. The conventional engine delivers 156 hp, while the electric one is ready to offer 115 hp and no less than 400 Nm of torque. The combined output is 218 hp, sent to the front axle through a six speed DSG transmission.
The recipe is good for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in eight seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h. Fuel consumption is incredibly low at just 2 liters for first 100 km, while the complete range of the car closes up to 1000 kilometers when the petrol tank is full and battery recharged. The emissions are also very low at just 45 g/km.
