In Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mercedes has begun the production of a new 4×4 model, the new Mercedes GLE Coupe. Described as a combination between a coupe and a crossover and as the real rival for the BMW X6 competitor, GLE Coupe will go on sale later this year.
Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management, declared: “The production launch of the GLE Coupe is an important milestone in our growth strategy. In 2015 we will renew almost our full SUV portfolio and have therefore built up our capacities in the U.S. Together with the C-Class, we will produce more than 300,000 vehicles in Tuscaloosa this year.”
GLE Coupe combines the sporty nature of a coupe, imbued with the striking characteristics of a robust SUV distinguished by a dynamic roofline and a distinctive rear end that echoes the S-Class Coupe.
The hood houses a variety of engines including a 3.0-liter V6 diesel with 258 hp and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque. There are also four gasoline engines, with powers that range from 333 to 585 hp, the last found on the AMG performance version, the GLE63 AMG Coupe.
