This year the lucky number is 38 as 38,115,000 USD represents the amount that Jo Schlesser offered for an outstanding 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO with chassis number 3851GT.
The world record was set in Bonhams at the Quail Lodge during Pebble Beach by one of the only 39 units of 250 GTO built by Ferrari.
Along the new record set for the most expensive Ferrari in the world Jo Schlesser also managed to beat the previous 29.65 million USD record established in 2013 also at a Bonhams sale by a 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R Formula 1 car.
Not all buyers want to reveal their identity. Last year a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO wearing chassis number 5111GT was sold by collector Paul Pappalardo to an unidentified buyer for 52M USD. Also in 2012, one of the Stirling Moss`s fan opted for the apple green 1962 250 GTO, offering 35M USD for having the honour of driving the legendary car.
